Community Connections began in 2004 as a response to the needs of Southern Nevada not-for-profit organizations that told us 'raising awareness' was a significant obstacle in Southern Nevada.
For Nevada Public Radio, Community Connections illustrates our commitment to our role as a convener; a media company that reflects the region we serve. Our mission is to build better communities. One way to do that is to connect our audiences with organizations addressing the needs of our growing region through an unfiltered view of their work.
Each month one non-profit is featured with volunteers, board members and staff explaining the mission, achievements, programs and the impact made in the lives of clients. These public service segments air three times each weekday on News 88.9 KNPR and Classical 89.7 KCNV.
Now entering its fifth year, Community Connections has highlighted 48 organizations. The project has been honored three straight years as ''Best Public Service Program'' by the Las Vegas Electronic Media Awards, including ''2006 Best of Show''.
